Parit├Ątische Kindergarten in a few words

A typical example for the German reality is the Paritaetische Kindergarten: The kindergarten is situated in a socially very crucial and critical area, almost 20% of the population are foreign citizens. In the Kindergarten this percentage is about 75%. As a consequence the staff of the kindergarten very actively has to support these children to enable them to use all the various possibilities for learning and advancing in order to develop bi-cultural competence and cultural openness. The necessary competence for this supporting activity is neither taught during the vocational training for educators nor during the studies of social pedagogy, but it requires an engaged initiative of the kindergarten.

The kindergarten provides services for 100 children in four groups on a daily basis. The proportion of immigrant children from 15 different ethnic groups is about 75%. The focus of the work is to create an atmosphere of tolerance and mutual understanding between German and immigrant children.

Therefore, priority is given to the integration of children from different ethnic groups through various projects: special workshops in the own studio for both children and parents and theatre workshops are considered to be an ideal forum for meetings of children or parents of very different origins. Through this kind of activities children and parents make remarkable progress in German and can more easily get into contact with other people.
